Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a great Christmas and holiday season with friends and family. Had an incredible fall season – up over 43 units! Just wanted to review some finals numbers although NHL and NCAAB are still still playing.
Obviously, football is the most difficult sport to handicap yet I managed to squeeze out 12 plus units combined.
Started the season at 5-1 up 3.3 units but both Auburn and Penn State laid eggs week 6. I play heavy favorites and wrap them in a big parlay. Only negative to this strategy is many times one team will get upset and it kills the entire parlay. But, to end the season with only four losing weeks, I am a happy camper. Although safe and conservative, the strategy always yields positive units.
Like college football, I employ a unique strategy of using only 6 point teasers for the NFL. The two most important numbers in the NFL are 3 and 7. Why? More games end in these margins than any other so in my handicapping I make sure my teasers cover both numbers by at least a half point. Should have finished the season with over 10 units but really made a bad decision playing New Orleans in the last week of the season. Although, 68% win percentage is pretty darn good!
If I had to pick a sport that is the easiest to handicap, without a doubt it would be college basketball. With a slew of games almost every night, oddsmakers are forced to lay a line on almost every game to create action. Yet, the smart handicapper can cherry-pick those games finding a small amount of matchups with “bad” lines. At 21-11 on 1/1 and up 8.9 units, I should be over 20 units at season’s end or even pushing 30 units.
My favorite sport to handicap? Hockey! Ironic because I’m not a fan and rarely watch any games. GO CANES! But, hockey has tremendous value and underdogs win often in the NHL setting up some big moneyline payoffs. Finished the year on a 7-0 run hitting some really big dogs – thank you Blackhawks and Kings! Finished the year out at 54% but up 22.3 units! BOOM!
In summary, incredible fall season and I doubt you will find many handicappers that were in the GREEN on every fall sport! Cheers and stayed tuned for more content.
